Liam O'Brien defended 12 off the final over to overcome India in a tight game and secure a place in the final for England Men's Physical Disability team in the PD Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka.
Alex Hammond and Angus Brown both scored half-centuries as England posted a competitive 169-7 from their 20 overs, and despite England being on top with the ball, India fought back to take it all the way down to the last ball, but O'Brien held his nerve to secure the win for Callum Flynn's side.
England had beaten both Pakistan and Sri Lanka thus far, with India remaining unbeaten before this game, but today's win takes England to the top of the table and guarantees their spot in Tuesday's final, which will be a repeat of today's group game against India.
Alex Hammond, who top-scored with a 33-ball 55 and took 1-22, said: "It was a really good game. India bowled well with the new ball and we lost a few early wickets, it was nice to see Jamie Goodwin get us off to a good start with a few boundaries up top.
"Coming out of the powerplay we had lost three of four wickets, so Angus Brown and I were together fairly early on. It was great batting with him, he gave me a bit more time to settle in and allowed me to start at a run a ball.
"We were in a good position after getting up to 170. The bowlers started brilliantly up top, Jordan Williams has been excellent all series and he was again, supported by Liam O'Brien, Callum Flynn and Anthony Clapham.
"It was in the balance in the middle of their innings, and then Ben Sutton came on and did excellently. It was nice to see him really try and drive the ball into the pitch, turn it big and get a lot of bounce - I was trying to bowl very stump to stump and maintain control. We struggled against India last time, going at 10s, so to pick up four wickets and go at 6s was great to see.
"Fair play to the India batters, they made it close - closer than we would have liked, especially with five overs to go when they needed 70. When Liam's first ball went for six there were probably a few nerves in the group but he came back brilliantly, executed his slower balls into the pitch, and luckily we were able to come out winners so overall a really good performance and hopefully we can take that momentum into the final."
